HP Envy 14 Sandy Bridge Laptop Features
The 7,200rpm 750GB hard drive is larger than the 640GB one found in the Sony VAIO VPC-EG16FM ($829.99 list, 4 stars), and faster than the U46E-BAL5's 5,400rpm drive. One of the three USB ports is configured with USB 3.0 technology (which runs up to ten times faster than USB 2.0); standard ports like Ethernet, headphone, and a headphone-microphone combo are also available. A multiformat card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC) lets you pull photos and videos from your camera's memory card without an extra adapter. A slot-loading DVD±RW drive handles your optical media, except for Blu-ray. Most laptops in this price range don't include Blu-ray as a standard feature, but it can be found on the lower-priced Sony VPC-EG16FM. Connecting to an external display is a snap with both DisplayPort and HDMI ports on the laptop. You can even stream high-definition content to an HDTV via Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) technology, provided you have the required Netgear Push2TV receiver. Also on the wireless front, the HP Envy 14 (Sandy Bridge) has 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0, which let you pair devices, such as keyboards and mice, with your laptop.
